What's in it for me?

That's a valid question.

In this day and age our lives have become even more rushed and hectic.  We no longer have the time to hang out at the local coffee shop and talk to the people that wander in.  Actually that's highly over rated; a lot of those people who wandered in we didn't want to talk to anyway.  This online Community was developed in the hope that we could fill somewhat the same function as the local cafe.

On the 'Forums' page you will find sections for general discussions (you can start and reply to topics) and 'For Sale' sections.  The 'Recommended' pages have local restaurants, general services and wines that come highly recommended by your neighbors.   The 'Links' pages have websites that are very useful and were gathered over the years through many hours of eye straining web surfing (so you don't have to).

Give it a try; it costs nothing to sign up and we believe you will find it useful and informative.

Welcome to the home of the Mt. Airy, MD Community.  This site was conceived in order to foster a stronger sense of community.

That's only partially true; we really developed this site because we wanted to meet new people in the area beyond our local neighborhood.

A secondary purpose is to provide a resource for locals looking for baby sitters, car pools, reliable local services, whatever... you get the picture.

To make our online Community valuable YOU need to join and  participate.  You must register as a Member to make full use of this site but it costs absolutely nothing to join!  We do require an address but I can promise we're not going to send you any snail mail.  Click on the word Register in the upper right corner.

The Mt. Airy, MD Community web site is owned and administered by Mt. Airy residents Jean and Art Leyton.

Opened up all public pages and links so that the only time you need to login is if you are working in the Forums or Events pages.

Changed 'Recommended Restaurants' to 'Restaurant Reviews'.  Registered users can now submit restaurant reviews and rate or post comments to current reviews.

For those of of you that would like to participate more directly with the Mt. Airy Community Online site we are looking for people to contribute articles on most any topic that might be of interest in Mt. Airy.

In the coming weeks we will also be asking for members that would like to volunteer to be Moderators in the Forum and Events sections.

We have added a Business Card page to provide local businesses a place to advertise without cluttering the rest of the site.

One last note, we have the capability to assign "hidden" sites under the Mt. Airy Community site.  These sites can only be accessed by members you authorize.  This would be useful for HOA's or church groups that would like an online presence but don't want to go through the hassle or expense of setting up their own web site.  In the beginning these would be free but that may have to change depending on our web traffic and database usage.  Even in a worst case scenario they would not cost more than $30 per month.
